My current research concerns how sedimentary rocks acquire depositional remanent magnetization. Sources of error in depositional remanent magnetization have been widely studied with multiple lines of inquiry, but many open questions still exist. With Dario Bilardello, I am conducting redeposition experiments under varying magnetic field conditions to evaluate the scatter of magnetic directions and, in turn, how reliable these are for relative paleointensity determinations. This work has the potential to provide insight into the acquisition of depositional remanent magnetization and improve estimates of relative paleointensity.
