Research

I am primarily interested in the mechanisms of remanence in nontraditional geomagnetic materials, explored through correlative techniques that couple rock magnetic analyses with microscopic, chemical, and other non-magnetic tools. My primary research topic to date has been the magnetism of speleothems, or calcite deposits, in natural cave systems, and their utility as recorders of the Earth’s magnetic field over geologic timescales. I am also interested in planetary magnetism; my current research focuses on the effects of deformation on the magnetization of Martian basalts.
